  1. About Me… after 8 days.

October 14, 2008 by Sophie Helen

sophie-helen-8th-dayI was born on October 6th…

Dad says at 11:23 PM, Mum says: 11:31 PM but on the video just after I came out, the clock on the wall says 11:33 PM so I’m sticking with mum on this one… she should know.

    I weighed in at 3.56 kilos or 7.84845653 pounds… let’s call that 7.8 pounds.

I was 52 cm (or twenty and a half inches) long which, in my opinion, is pretty long or tall.

11:31 PM means you can say I’m either an eleventh hour baby, a brinkswoman, last minute stuff or fashionably late.

Mum and Dad are more inclined to think unfashionably late because they had actually been expecting me before September 29th… sorry folks, I had some tidying up to do before I was ready to come out.

    October 6th means I’m a Libra.

According to what my dad has read, Libra is connected with the Greek Goddess of Justice, Themis.

Dad says that Libra is also associated with the Greco-Roman goddess Aphrodite or Venus.

libra In the horoscope, the symbol for Libra is the scales. Wikipedia says that many modern astrologers regard Libra as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the highest point (that’s what zenith means) of the year, the high point of the seasons, when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped.

    Libras are like this:

Diplomatic  and compromising but can be manipulative (like, I’m 8 days old and Dad’s already wrapped around my finger), cooperative, fair, balanced, impartial & idealistic (in relationships). We’re also supposed to be charming (I think so), easy going, indecisive, peace loving (can’t we all just get along?), gullible, elegant, graceful, refined, artistic, pleasure oriented, gentle, sensitive, kind, cheerful, romantic, self-indulgent & flirty (but loyal in marriage). So far, I’ve only managed to be charming, elegant and peace loving but I’m only 8 days old.

Very important: People born under the sign of Libra supposedly tend to have a graceful figure, a charming appearance, refined features, a high forehead, and a ‘trademark’ dimple. They are often very good looking individuals and use their good looks well. I don’t have a dimple yet but everything else looks spot on.

rat 2008 makes me a rat in the Chinese Horoscope. Some people don’t like rats but in China, people think the rat is cool because of its quick thinking and ability to get and hold onto valuable stuff. Rats are thought to be very lucky in China and Japan. The Rat character is smart, charming, funny, stylish and cool.

The rat is the first of the 12 Chinese astrology animals.

This is because once upon a time (in China), the God of Heaven wanted to choose 12 animal names as the sequence of the calendar.

He announced a big race between all the animals to see what order they would be in.

Before the race, the cat had forgotten the schedule and asked the rat for help but the rat gave the cat the wrong time on purpose. Cats have been angry at rats ever since — that’s why they’re always chasing us.

When all the racers came to a big river, the rat jumped onto the horn of the ox and stayed there until the other side and then raced ahead to win.

That’s why rats are number one.

Today, I am 8 days old and 3.7 kilos. Only 51 weeks left until my birthday.

The last bit of my umbilical chord came off today.

And I got vaccinated for Hepatitis B… it really hurt. Mean, old doctor.

It’s not easy being cool. Not easy at all. That said, I make it look fairly effortless, don’t you think?

But, sigh, my life isn’t all glamour you know.

  3. Hello Beautiful

October 12, 2008 by Sophie Helen

Here are the first few minutes of my (Sophie Helen Puspita Hynes) life.

I was born at 11:23 PM, Monday October 6th at Puri Bunda Hospital in Bali, Indonesia.

october-06-minute-000…first image, my Daddy  is cutting the chord. Everyone had told him the chord would be surprisingly difficult to cut so, of course, he tried to hard — you could probably hear the SNIP! from a few miles away.

Then I met my beautiful mummy for the first time on the outside…

…I was very surprised and made a little noise (daddy said I wailed, howled, wept & cried… I didn’t… some of those things I don’t even know how to do). Mummy on the other hand was tired but delighted because I’m brilliant.

The last (and biggest) picture, shows mum & me just after I washed up a little. I’m very happy and mum can’t stop beaming with pride. I am now about one hour old which is very big actually.

october-7th-morningHere I am again later in the morning — around 9:00 AM — October 7th being held up to the camera by my grandmother…

Mum is on the bed behind us sleeping because she did a lot of hard work. Dad is on a different bed also sleeping because he didn’t do anything.

october-8th-morningHere I am again. This time having my first proper bath. I am brilliant.

Dad says, “In my opinion, a remarkably precocious display of social awareness and elegance — proof october-8th-auntie-galih-and-yangti positive that not only is Sophie Helen beautiful, she’s also a genius. Amazing.” Anyway, like I said, I am brilliant.

Freshly bathed, dressed & accessorized, I decided  to be photographed with fans… in this case Auntie Galih and Grandma.

    The next day, October 9th.

Here is daddy, mummy and the doctor.october-8th-with-doctor

I don’t like this picture too much because you can’t really see me.

Later that day (just after we meet the doctor) we’re allowed home. This is my first chance to wear a dress.

Lovely, I think you’ll agree except maybe for this last shot:

    OCT-10-03

Dad calls this: "No more wine for you guvnor, gimme your keys, we’re calling you a taxi."

As I said, he’s nowhere near as funny as he thinks he is.

This was my first proper (proper) bath and make-up session:

    OCT-08-01

It took ages and, afterwards, I was exhausted.

    OCT-08-04

While, I was sleeping, Auntie Galih & Yangti took me out to show me off with a seventies style headband. Cool.

    OCT-08-05

Last thing of the day, we got together with the doctor who delivered me… well, I didn’t just walk out if you catch my drift…

  10. My first day…

October 7, 2008 by Sophie Helen

My first day was a little busy… here I am with Grandad (Yangkung) & Grandmother (Yangti) and mum.

    OCT-07-01

We had the bathing, the checking, the testing, the feeding, the pooping… no peeing. I didn’t pee at all until the next day or very late at night.

OCT-07-02Here I am again with Yangkung… mainly, coz I’m so pretty, it was really difficult to put me down.

    Look at mum’s smile.

OCT-07-03Here I am again with Yangti… I love my fans, really, but by the end of the day, I was starting to feel like a rugby ball.

My dad usually calls this picture, “Jussh wahn maw glazsch of wine, pleeazshe.”

He’s nowhere near as funny as he thinks he is.
