  1. now I ain’t sayin’ she’s a gold digger but…

    March 10, 2011 by Dad

    …no, wait, I AM saying she’s a gold digger.

These pictures are from evening time March 5th, Nyepi (Bali day of secret DVD watching silence). You have to imagine the sun is setting, it’s pretty dark in the house and we had all just finished watching a Dora DVD meditating and spiritually cleansing ourselves. We let the moment last, the room getting darker and darker ’till we can no longer see each other from just a few feet away. I shine a flashlight for an instant and what do I see? My daughter rooting for bogies in the dark. Bloody typical recently but combined with her heavy cold recently, the house has been knee deep in soggy, balled up tissues and slimey slug trails on the furniture. Sophie has been impressively fast graduating from merely rubbing an itchy nose, through deep mining operations, to, “hey, isn’t it hilarious when you pull out a big sticky bogie and then wipe it on the furniture so everyone else can share in the joy of a job well done?”

So, there you have it: my daughter caught digging for gold in the dark.

Not Sophie’s first Nyepi but this is the first one she has participated in… her first Kebaya and her first Ogoh-Ogoh. Super stuff.
